PURPOSE:To improve the degradation in a transmission band owing to mode dispersion of elliptical core fibers by connecting a dummy fiber for compensation to the terminal end of an optical fiber transmission line. CONSTITUTION:Plural (n) pieces of optical fibers HE11 having elliptical cores or having refractive index distributions changing similarly with those of the elliptical cores of which the differences between the group delay times of even modes and odd modes are tau1, tau2,...taun and fiber lengths are L1, L2,...Ln are connected at random, so that the sum total of tauiLi (i=1, 2,...n) is made zero. Thereby, the degradation in transmission bands owing to the dispersion of the elliptical core fibers is improved. |
