The invention relates to a firearm. This weapon comprises a percussion mechanism 12, a barrel 2 prolonging this mechanism, a trigger 11 whose movement acts on the percussion mechanism in order to initiate the firing, a cartridge loader 6 opening into the percussion mechanism, and a safety means 25 or 50 acting on a safety mechanism 28, 29; this safety means occupies a first position prohibiting the movement of the trigger, or a second position to allow this movement; the weapon also comprises a butt 5 for gripping, behind the percussion mechanism. The safety means 25 or 50 is located on the butt in order to be placed into the second position by gripping the butt 5, the trigger 11 being located laterally with respect to the percussion mechanism, in order to be operated by the thumb of a firer's hand.
