The invention relates to a wound conductor. According to the invention, it comprises a certain number of electrically conductive strands 1, each having a transverse cross-section which is substantially rectangular and having four lateral faces; an electrically insulating sheet 12 which is extended, in the manner of a coil, so as to be interposed between the adjacent strands and which is extended along at least three lateral faces of the strands so as to form an assembly comprising the strands and the insulating sheet and an external insulating layer 13 arranged over the external surfaces of the assembly.
