PURPOSE:To obtain a nickel electrode having sufficient mechanical strength, high utility of active material, and high capacity density by forming a conductive core with a metal fiber porous sinter having three dimensional continuous voids, and specifying the weight per area of metal fibers in a nickel electrode. CONSTITUTION:Metal fibers such as nickel fibers and nickel-plated carbon fibers are formed in a nonwoven fabric sheet, and sintered in a reducing atmosphere to manufacture a metal fiber porous sinter having three dimensional continuous voids. This sinter is used as a conductive core. The weight per area of metal fibers in a nickel electrode is specified to 400-700g/m<2>. Since the metal fiber porous sinter has layered metal short fibers, it has sufficient durability and mechanical strength. Since the contact area of active material with the current collector is increased, electronic conductivity and capacity density are increased. |
