The invention relates to a cartridge, especially a cartridge that can be used in firearms that have especially small calibre rifled or smooth barrels. The cartridge according to the invention has a bullet 1 with essentially the same diameter as the bore and with a plurality of grooves 4, which are formed either helically around or parallel to the longitudinal axis, and a sabot 6, which has a shell 7 and fingers 9, which are engaged with the grooves and seal the bullet in a sleeve 10, the sabot having a somewhat larger diameter than the bullet, so that the sabot is hollowed out by the rifling in the barrel, through which the cartridge is to be fired, for rotation of the bullet. In alternative embodiments the grooves contain elongated elements or a plurality of spherical elements or they offer resistance in the barrel after firing. <IMAGE> |
