PURPOSE: To minimize the loss of the resolution of one filter process by improving noise suppression in an SAR image. CONSTITUTION: The detection of an edge is utilized to adaptively detect the bandwidth of a filter used for noise suppression. A 1st array 32 of pixels of an input image is generated and a 2nd array of data values in addresses corresponding to featured positions (edge) of the image is generated, and when a feature marker is present at the corresponding position of the 2nd array or when data from the 1st array is included at the position that each position corresponds to, the 1st array 32 is so corrected that each position includes the feature marker, additional arrays 36 and 40 of data values are generated to satisfy one level of a pyramid 30 temporary from the bottom to the top, and each additional array provides an additional level in the said pyramid to obtain an improved output image having resolution maintained. |
