PURPOSE:To provide an optical device that does wavelength tuning by changing the refractive index by a small current that it does not cause a temperature change and an optical communicating system that utilizes it. CONSTITUTION:It consists of a substrate, an active layer 104 and a wavelength control layer 105, and the active layer 104 and the wavelength control layer 105 are arranged at top and bottom sides. The active layer 104 and the wavelength control layer 105 are separated by a conductive central layer 106. Contact layers and metal electrodes for electric connection are so provided as to be electrically connected to the substrate, the central layer 106 and an upper side layer of the active layer 104 or the wavelength control layer 105 that are arranged on the other side of the substrate with the central layer 106 between them. The wavelength control layer 105 consists of a type 2 superlattice layer. |
