PURPOSE:To provide an alkaline storage battery with high energy density by using a powdery active material mainly comprising globular nickel hydroxide particles whose particle size distribution is divided into two peaks of large and small in a nickel electrode. CONSTITUTION:A powdery active material mainly comprising globular, semi- globular, and egg-shaped nickel hydroxide particles whose particle size distribution is divided into two peaks is used to form a positive electrode for an alkaline storage battery. Two positions of large peak and small peak in the particle size distribution are preferably between 4-7mum and between 20-50mum respectively. By specifying the content of the powder having the small peak in the particle size distribution to 25-35wt.% and that of the powder having the large peak to 75-65wt.%, the tapping density of the active material is increased to 2.3g/ml or more. The active material is kneaded in a pasty state and filled in a foamed metal substrate to obtain a nickel electrode for an alkaline storage battery with high filling density. |
