PURPOSE: To reduce an echo component level sufficiently even when an echo component level is high by detecting a reception voice level and controlling a transmission voice level based on the detected reception voice level. CONSTITUTION: A received voice signal from an opposite party is mixed with its own transmission voice signal as a feedback voice signal, and the mixed signal is inputted to an echo canceller 4 via an A/D converter 11. The canceller 4 extracts a feedback voice signal from the mixed transmission voice signal and an echo suppressor 5 receiving a mixed transmission voice signal c1 being the output of the echo canceller detects the level of reception data (p) from a decoding section 22. When the level of the data (p) is small, it is judge that the effect of the feedback sound resident in the transmission voice signal c1 is high when the level of the data (p) is high and the level of the transmission voice signal c1 is decreased and outputted. Thus, the level of the echo component is set automatically to a level not causing a sense of incongruity.
