The invention concerns a functionalized polymer of the formula A-Z-X in which A is a block made up of vinyl aromatic monomers with 8 to 20, preferably 8 to 12, carbon atoms, Z is a basic unit corresponding to a compound with sterically hindering groups and X is a functionalized basic unit, the degree of functionalization of the polymer being at least 65 %, preferably greater than 85 %, particularly preferably greater than 90 %.
