The anti-theft system includes an infrared receiver (2) which responds to coded signals from a remote transmitter (20). The receiver controls a high tension pulse generator (10) which applies pulses via safety relays to the casing of the safe. Energy for the HT pulses is derived from an accumulator (9).Further safety switches (22) ensure the safety of personnel in the event of an electronic fault. An authorised user of the safe operates the infrared remote control, sending a signal which temporarily disables the HT pulses which are otherwise applied to the safe.
