PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical amplifier which is capable of outputting signal light that is amplified so as to be at a certain level independently of the intensity of input signals. SOLUTION: An optical amplifier is equipped with a laser resonator 6 wherein the laser resonator 6 is equipped with an erbium-loaded optical fiber 4 which amplifiers laser resonant light an erbium-loaded optical fiber 14 which amplifies both the laser resonant light and signal light incident on the laser resonator 6, and a wavelength multiplexing optical multiplexers 3 and 13. A signal light intensity stabilizing means 10 is connected to an exciting light source 1 which excites the erbium-loaded optical fiber 4, and the exciting light of the exciting light source 1 is changed in intensity by the signal light intensity stabilizing means 10 corresponding to the intensity of input signal light, whereby the erbium-loaded optical fiber 4 is changed in gain to change the erbium-loaded optical fiber 14 in gain, so that the optical amplifier of this design is capable of keeping the amplified signal light constant in intensity. |
