PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a time detection circuit with both a wide dynamic range and a high time resolution being made compatible. SOLUTION: A start FF circuit 1 is set by a start signal stt and outputs a retained start signal hstt. The signal hstt becomes the D input of a synchronous start FF circuit 2 and the start signal input of a TAC 1. A synchronous start signal cstt that is outputted in synchronism with a reference clock is inputted to the TAC 1 as a stop signal and a start side asynchronous timeΔT1 is detected. Similarly, start and stop signals are fed to a TAC 2 due to the coordinated operation of a stop FF circuit 4, a synchronous stop FF circuit 5, and a delay circuit 6 and an asynchronous timeΔT2 at a stop side is detected. The remaining time is detected by TDC for receiving the output pulse of an AND circuit 7. By using a synchronous type oscillation circuit in place of a reference clock circuit 3, the generation of the start side asynchronous timeΔT1 can be avoided.
