PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve high brightness and high contrast at the same time and to provide a very fine image with high color purity by installing a conducive trap having an opening part through which electron beams are passed and a nonopening part for trapping back scattering electron beams at the specific distance from a face plate. SOLUTION: A conductive trap having an opening part through which electron beams emitted from an electron emitting element are passed and an non- opening part for trapping back scattering electron beams generating when electron beams come in an image forming member is installed at distance H-0.1 -H0.1 from a face plate. H-0.1 and H0.1 are represented by formulas land II. In formula II,δ0 andδ1 are represented by formulas III, IV. When the width of the opening part of the conductive trap is represented by W in the formula, and the width of the non-opening part of the conductive trap is represented by Ws, the condition of formula V is obtained, but formulas VI and VIII are satisfied. The conductive trap is separated from the face plate by placing a partition-shaped member having the specified height on the face plate.
