PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a confirmation work for confirming whether the video already recorded on a recording medium is a video whose erasure is permitted or not performable easily at the time of recording a new video on the recording medium while overwriting it on the pre-recorded video. SOLUTION: This device has a recording and reproduction concurrent mode performing a reproducing operation in parallel with a recording operation and, in this mode, the device records video data indicating an input video from an input part 1 on an optical disk 8. Together with it, the device reproduces video data at a position being behind the current recording position by a prescribed interval as a preceding video in parallel with the recording and composes the reproduced video and the input video from the part 1 to display them on a monitor 16.
