PURPOSE:To provide a carbon negative electrode difficult to decompose an electrolyte while keeping the characteristic in which a dendrite is difficult to grow, and provide a Li secondary battery excellent in battery characteristics such as energy density, electromotive force, discharge capacity, and cycle life. CONSTITUTION:A carbon negative electrode for Li secondary has a layer 1 consisting of carbon at least on the surface, and at least the surface of the layer consisting of carbon is modified or substituted by SiLix group (wherein x is an integer of 1-3). A Li secondary battery has such a carbon negative electrode. Thus, the limitation to electrolyte is minimized, and electrolytes having various compositions can be widely used. |
