PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for on-line monitoring of the quality of synthetic fiber yarn, capable of monitoring a state of interlacing the synthetic fiber yarn and an item of 'yarn quality', and capable of giving each of output data individually corresponding to the state and the item. SOLUTION: This method for on-line monitoring of the quality of the synthetic fiber yarn is carried out by setting a sensor having two optical axes of which the each is formed by a pair of a projector and a photodetector to the yarn which travels through a processing unit for interlacing in such a manner that the two optical axes are arranged to rectangularly cross each other. Changes of transmitted light in the sensor caused by transmission of the light through the yarn are each converted into electric signals to form two signals, and the formed two signals are averaged with an electric control circuit to form one standard electric signal, so that the quality of the yarn is monitored by using the formed signal.
