PURPOSE:To produce a sintered silicon carbide having light weight, high strength and excellent heat shock resistance. CONSTITUTION:Silicon carbide whiskers are mixed with a silicon carbide powder of less than 30mum in average particle size in a proportion of 30 to 50wt.% and formed. Then, the product is fired in a non-oxidative atmosphere at 1,900-2,100 deg.C. Preferably, a silicon carbide powder of 0.5-10mum average particle size is used. |
