PURPOSE:To provide a method for producing thick glass carbon having extremely few internal pores and uniform and dense structure. CONSTITUTION:In a method for producing glass carbon by forming a thermosetting resin liquid having a composition consisting essentially of a phenolic resin and heating and curing the formed resin, baking and carbonizing the cured resin in a non-oxidizing atmosphere at 2800 deg.C, oxygen is dissolved in the thermosetting resin liquid by bubbling an oxygen-containing gas containing >=18vol% of oxygen into the thermosetting resin liquid and then, formed in a desired shape and heated and cured in an oxidizing atmosphere having 18-50vol% of oxygen concentration in a temperature area of <=350 deg.C. Oxygen concentration in the oxygen-containing gas for bubbling is preferably >=50vol%. |
