PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a system for hierarchical management of distributed data. SOLUTION: A component data storage system uses, for enabling storage of part of a specific data segment under a different redundancy system during a period of migration of a redundancy system, a hierarchical data structure, a hierarchical coordinator routine for paralleling the hierarchical data structure, and a block address designation system including a role of the component data storage system. Hierarchical control logic is provided with a top level coordinator, a virtual disk image level coordinator, a segment configuration node level coordinator, a configuration group level coordinator, and a configuration level coordinator.
