PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video image display apparatus capable of reducing secondary image deterioration due to image quality correction processing. SOLUTION: A signal processing portion 3 of a television apparatus 1 divides all the processing contrast correction processings which should be applied to digital video data, into prestage contrast correction processing and poststage contrast correction processing; a contrast correction circuit 26 applies prestage contrast correction processing to 8-bit digital video data, to decrease the width of fluctuation; by having gamma correction circuit 28 apply post-stage contrast correction processing which corresponds to the remaining part into 10-bit digital video data, the width of fluctuations in the digital video data of coarse gradation can be suppressed and errors can be kept at a minimum, and detailed digital video data of gradation can be made to change precisely.
