Disclosed is a display device 100 wherein: a plurality of through holes are provided in a back chassis 7 of a backlight (lighting device) 200, and a substrate 3 having LEDs 2 mounted thereon is provided on the outer side of the back chassis 7. Light emitted from the LEDs 2 is guided to and diffused in the housing 10 by means of guiding diffusion lenses 4 that are provided to the back chassis 7, said guiding diffusion lenses being inserted into the through holes, and the light passes through a diffusion plate 5 and an optical sheet laminated body 6, and then a liquid crystal panel 1 is irradiated with the light. By providing the substrate 3 on the outer side of the back chassis 7, since heat generated from the LEDs 2 is not easily transferred to the liquid crystal panel 1, the optical sheet laminated body 6, and the diffusion plate 5, which are housed in the housing 10, temperature increases of the members can be suppressed, thereby improving emission luminance of the LEDs 2 within a range wherein a display defect is not generated, and improving luminance of a display image. |
