In an induction system for a cylinder having at least two inlet valves 1 and 2, respective throttle valves 7 and 6 control flow through the respective induction passages and one valve 7 is controlled by the accelerator pedal and the other valve 6 is automatically controlled in response to at least one engine operating condition. The valves 1 and 2 are operated by separate cams (14, Fig. 1, not shown), having profiles chosen to provide high torque characteristics at low engine speeds and high engine power output characteristics at high engine speeds, respectively. The valves 6 and 7 may be in the choke tubes of a twin choke carburetter 8. The valve 6 may be controlled by a diaphragm in response to the vacuum in the passage 11. The fuel may be supplied by injection.</p> |
