[Also in Division C7] Compounds of the general formula where R is an alkyl group, R<SP>1</SP> is a hydroxyalkyl group, b is 1, 2, 3 or 4, and X is a water-solubilizing anion are prepared by quaternizing the correspondingly substituted pyridine with a propargyl compound HC#C-CH 2 -X, preferably the bromide. Specified compounds are 2- methyl - 6 - γ - hydroxypropyl- and 2 - ethyl- 4: 6- # - hydroxyethyl - N - propargyl-pyridinium bromides. |
