1,148,173. Moulding fibre-resin articles. BAUERS Ltd. 29 March, 1966 [29 April, 1965], No. 13751/66. Heading B5A. [Also in Division D1] Fibre-resin articles are made by forming a web of opened textile fibres of the group comprising cotton or chemically modified cotton fibres, spraying the web with a composition including a thermosetting reagent that will cross-link cellulose, allowing the sprayed web to partially dry out, lapping the web to form a batt, compression moulding the batt to the desired shape, and finally curing the shaped batt. The moulding may be performed between expanded metal dies (see Figs. 2 and 3, not shown). The spray composition may also include a thermoplastic latex. Suitable thermosetting reagents are urea formaldehyde, tris- (l-aziridinyl) phosphine oxide, methylated methylal melamine or dimethyl ethyl carbonate, and suitable latices are based on a vinyl/acrylic copolymer or a styrene/butadiene copolymer. |
