[Also in Division D1] Tobacco smoke filters are formed from a filamentary material to produce a continuous mass of interconnected crimped filamentary-like ribbons of the type described in Specification 1,145,976, the ribbons being formed from a molecularly oriented film composed of 40-70% of polyolefin and of 30-60% of polystyrene. Polypropylene and polyethylene are the preferred polyolefins. Interconnection is effected by spraying the filamentary mass with a plasticizer for polystyrene such as diethyl, dibutyl and di-(2-ethylhexyl) phthalates. |
