1,202,787. Drying natural gas. UNION CARBIDE CORP. 28 Nov., 1968 [29 Nov., 1967], No. 56412/68. Heading B1L. Wellhead natural gas is dried by passing the feed by line 3, through free water separator 4, to zeolite molecular sieve bed 1, valve 10 being open and 13 closed. 1-10% sidestream of the feed is passed by line 9, through heater 12, where it is heated to 500-700‹F. and thence downward through exhausted bed 2, thereby regenerating it, valve 14 being open and 11 closed. Dry effluent from bed 1 leaves by lines 15, 20 and 21, while wet effluent from bed 2 passes by lines 16 and 24 to cooler 25 and free water separator 23; the two effluents are then mixed in line 19 as the product gas. When bed 1 is exhausted the roles of the two beds are reversed. Suitable zeolites are types A, D, S, R, T or X having a pore size of 3-10A. In a modification (see Fig. 2, not shown), the effluents from each bed are passed in heat exchange relationship with each other, before each passes to its own free water separator, the gaseous effluent from the two separators being combined. |
