A process for the production of enamel-frit suspensions in water in the presence of suspension agents and electrolyte forming salts wherein 0.2 to 3% by weight based on the enamel frit of finely-divided highly dispersed silica is used as the suspension agent and 0.1-1% by weight based on the enamel frit of alkaline earth and/or aluminium salts is used as the electrolyte former. The silica may be prepared either by a precipitation method or by pyrolytic methods and has an average particle diameter of 20 ma .
