[Also in Division F4] In a sealed double walled unit such as a double glazed unit Fig. 1a, or a double walled container, Fig. 2a, as may be used in the pharmaceutical industries, the space between the two walls 2 or 2' is sealed by a sealing element including a self supporting desiccant rod 4 or 4' in the form of a self supporting central core 6 or 6' desiccant material surrounded by a jack 5 or 5' of moisture pervious material. In the rod specifically described the core is of a molecular sieve or silica gel mixed with a suitable fluid binder and the jacket is of thin pressed cardboard and a sealing material 7 or 7' which may also be an adhesive seals the rod to the walls 2, or 2'. Methods of assembling the elements together are described. The rod may be formed by extruding simultaneously from an extruder head with the core through an inner nozzle and the jacket through a surrounding outer nozzle.. |
