Diamide compounds of the formula RCO.NH.A.NH.COR where A is an adamantane nucleus which may be substituted by 1 or 2 alkyl groups of 1-10 carbon atoms and R is H or an alkyl, aryl, alkaryl or aralkyl group of up to 19 carbon atoms, are converted to the diamino compounds by acid or base hydrolysis, and polymerized with diacids. Adamantane is <FORM:1108335/C3/1>ALSO:Adamantane compounds of the formula R.CO.NH.A.NH.CO.R where A is an adamantane nucleus which may contain 1 or 2 alkyl groups of 1-10 carbon atoms, of which certain of the dialkyl adamantanes are stated to be novel, and R is H or an alkyl, aryl, aralkyl or alkaryl group of not more than 19 carbon atoms, are prepared by adding RCN to a dihydroxy or dihalo adamantane in 96-110% H2SO4, using at least 10 mols. H2SO4, when 110% H2SO4 is used, or a least 50 mols. H2SO4, when 96% H2 SO4 is used, and at least 2 mols. RCN per mol. of adamantane compound, and hydrolysing with water to give the desired amide. 1,3-Diacetamido-, 1,3-diformamido-and 1,3-dibenzamido-5,7-di-methyladamantane are claimed per se. |
