[Also in Division G2] Apparatus for storing and supplying recording tape comprises a cartridge member, including a first integral flange and hub portion on which the tape is coiled and a second dished cover flange which is resiliently urged towards the first flange to hold the tape in position, and a rotatable cartridge carrier with means for moving the first flange away from the dished flange to allow the tape to be unwound. The tape is wound on hub 20 which is integral with the lower flange 22. A coupling member 28, which includes a ring 30 and three connector members 32 passing through apertures in an inwardly directed flange 23 of the hub, is snap-connected to the upper dished flange 26 and is urged apart from the flange 23 by spring 36. This spring action urges the dished flange into contact with the tape coil. In use the cartridge member is mounted on shaft 40 in a well 10 of a recorder. Downward pressure moves the member and platform 60 downwards against the action of spring 66 until latch mechanism 70 engages and holds the platform in its lowered position. Downward movement of shaft 102 by manual operation of lever 108 now moves three actuating members 114 downwardly and pivots them outwardly through slots 130 in the spindle body into contact with the upper surface of the inwardly directed flange 23. This movement draws the hub and lower flange downwards away from the dished upper flange to a position which allows tape to be removed from the reel. Return movement of the shaft 102 brings ring 81 at the head of the shaft into contact with a projection 80 in a trip element 78 which on being pivoted releases latch mechanism 70 and returns the cartridge member to its upper position from which it can be removed from the recorder.
