1294586 Valves R DELECOURT 2 Feb 1970 [4 Feb 1969] 4944/70 Heading F2V In a ball valve having a closure member 8 whose pivots 9 and 10 are supported in needle bearings 11 and 12 respectively, sealing of the closure member is effected by means of two identical seat assemblies 17 and 18 which are slidable in the bores of respective rings 2 and 3 forming part of the valve housing. Seat assembly 17 is of annular formation, carries a ball-contacting seal 17a of plastics or graphite and a bore-sealing ring 19, and is urged towards the closure member by an L-shaped annular bearing plate 21 subjected to the action of a plurality of springs 22, the tension of each such spring 22 being adjustable by means of a screw 23. Removal of housing screws 2, and hence of flange couplings 4 and 5, facilitates access to the seat assemblies for the adjustment or removal thereof. In modifications (Fig. 2 to 6, not shown), various arrangements are indicated for subjecting the seat assemblies to a force directed towards the closure member with the force in each such arrangement being adjustable. Additionally (Fig. 2), the valve body is provided with plugged bores through which adjustment of the seat assembly tension may be effected without dismantling of the valve coupling flanges. |
