Flux comprises a halohydrate, other than an iodohydrate, of a monobasic amino-acid or an ester of the acid with an alcohol contg. 1-10C atoms. Residues of this flux remaining after welding show relatively low corrosion. The flux may be used in aqs. soln. contng. a polyethylene glycol of mol. wt. 200-1000, pref. in amount of a quarter to twice the wt. of the halohydrate, when it is suitable for furnace welding. For use as a soft solder having higher melting pt. or for prolonged furnace welding the flux may contain a substd. ammonium halide, other than an iodide, pref. in amount of a quarter to twice the wt. of the halohydrate, opt. together with the polyethylene glycol if used in soln. |
