1296446 Copolymerizing vinyl chloride CHEMISCHE WERKE HULS AG 10 April 1970 [11 April 1969] 17098/70 Addition to 1245321 Heading C3P Copolymers of vinyl chloride with at least one copolymerizable compound are prepared by emulsion copolymerization in aqueous medium in the presence of a free radical initiator and 0À6 to 4 per cent by weight of the monomers of an emulsifier which is an alkali metal salt of an α-sulpho C 12-24 fatty acid, and at a pH of 2 to 5. An alkaline reagent, preferably an alkali metal carbonate, may be added to the resulting dispersion before working up. The products may be stabilized with organo-tin, lead, calciumzinc, diphenylthiourea, aminocrotonic ester and particularly barium/cadmium stabilizers. In examples vinyl chloride is copolymerized with (2) vinyl acetate using the monosodium salt of sulphopalmitic acid and (4) di-n-octyl maleate using the monosodium salt of sulphostearic acid, in the presence of potassium persulphate, and the products are worked up after treating with sodium carbonate. |
