A mass spectrometer ion source comprises a hollow cylindrical permanent magnet 14 at a high positive potential, an electron-emitting filament 11 protruding at its apex 12 into the magnet and held at a relatively low positive potential, and a pair of end plates 16, 17 held at an intermediate positive potential. Also provided are focus electrodes 19, 20 and collimator electrodes 23, 24. |
