A balance or like rotary oscillator for a timepiece has mounted thereon, so as to gyrate about the axis of rotation of the oscillator, a regulating member which is turnable relative to the oscillator to vary, the radius of gyration of the member whilst substantially maintaining the position of its centre of gravity relative to the axis of gyration thereby altering the period of oscillation of the oscillator without causing an imbalance. The regulating member 9 comprises a rectangular prism mounted on a flap 7 integral with a disc 3 of a balance wheel formed by two discs 3,4 spaced by a bush 2 on an arbor 1 and carrying permanent magnets 5, 6. The member 9 counterbalances the weight of the magnets 5, 6 and has a slot 10 by which it is rotated by a screwdriver above an axis 8. A scale may be provided on the flap 7 to indicate the setting of the member 9. An alternative regulating member 22 Fig. 4 (not shown) is of elliptic or circular cross-section. In a further arrangement two regulating members 9 Fig. 7 (not shown) are provided at diametrically opposite points on the rim of a balance wheel. |
