1314982 Triggering controlled rectifiers BROWN BOVERI & CO Ltd 30 July 1970 [1 Aug 1969] 36883/70 Heading H2F In a controlled rectifier system for supplying an intermittent load, or a load which produces a reverse voltage, the load voltage is compared with the instantaneous value of the alternating input voltage at an adjustable tapping on a member energized by said input voltage and is turned on so as to provide a triggering pulse or further triggering pulse for the controlled rectifiers. As described, a load such as a battery or D.C. motor produces a reverse voltage U5. This voltage is supplied to terminal B (Fig. 3) where it is compared with the alternating voltage at A obtained from the tapping of a potential divider or an ajustable secondary of a transformer connected across the supply. When the voltages at A, B have the polarity shown, the multi-vibrator 9, 10 oscillates with an amplitude proportional to the potential difference. The resulting pulses are rectified and the resulting uni-directional potential at C, D is fed to a trigger pulse generator of unspecified type so as to provide a trigger pulse at t4 which may be additional to the normal trigger pulse at t2. The rectifying system (Fig. 1, not shown) may comprise a bridge of two thyristors and two diodes or may be a conventional bridge or centretapped circuit.
