[Also in Divisions C3 and G2] The invention comprises compounds of the formula where Q is H or a substituent, R is an optionally substituted isocyclic aromatic or heterocyolic aromatic group, n is 0 or 1 and the azido group is meta or para to the methine group. The compounds are prepared by reacting an aromatic hydroxylamine with an aromatic azidoaldehyde. The preparation of 5-azidosalicylaldehyde via the amino compound, obtained from salicylaldehyde and diazosulphanilic acid by reductive splitting of the azo dyestuff, by diazotization and reaction with sodium azide, and similarly of 2-chloro-4-azidobenzaldehyde from 2-chloro- 4-amino-benzaldehyde is described. |
