The complexes have formula: Rh Ay B(3-y) X (where X is Cl or Br, the ligand A is Co or PF3, ligand B is a phosphine, phosphite, arsine, arsenite, stilbene, stilbenite, an amine whose N-atom is bound as hetero atom in an aromatic ring or a pi-bonded unsatd. hydrocarbon and y is 0 or 1. They are prepd. by reaction of insoluble water free trichloride or Rh tribromide with the ligands A and B at 50-350 degrees C. Complexes are used as oxo-synthesis catalysts and for preparing acetic acid from metranol and CO.
