[Also in Division C3] A foam moulding is made by heating expandable plastics particles which have a mean diameter of from 0.5 to 20 mm. and consist of a homogeneous mixture of (A) An at least partly crystalline ethylene polymer; (B) 2 to 25% by weight, with reference to the ethylene polymer, of an expanding agent whose decomposition temperature is from 15‹ to 150‹ C. above the crystallite melting point of the ethylene polymer; and (C) 0.05 to 2.5% by weight, with reference to the ethylene polymer, of a peroxide, as a crosslinking agent whose decomposition temperature is from 10‹ to 80‹ C. above the crystallite melting point of the ethylene polymer; in a non-gastight mould to a temperature above the decomposition temperature of the crosslinking agent and above the decomposition temperature of the expanding agent, and removing the moulding from the mould after it has cooled to a temperature which is at least 20‹ C. below the crystallite melting point of the polymer. The mould may have rigidly joined together walls which may be perforated or contain nozzles therein, or the mould may consist of four continuous belts arranged to form a channel, or of two parallel belts with stationary or movable walls. The mould may also be open at the top to receive a press member.
