<p>Cyclohexanol and cyclohexanone are recovered from a crude oxidation product from the liquid phase oxidation of cyclohexane with an oxygen - contg. gas by (a) neutralising the acids in the oxidation product by first treating with the finished alkaline soln. produced during the subsequent saponification of the esters, and then treating with fresh alkaline soln., (b) distilling unconverted cyclohexane, (c) saponifying the esters in the oxidation product with alkali, and (d) recovering the cyclohexanol and cyclohexanone. The treatment in stage (a) prevents the formation of emulsions, and facilitates the separation of the organic and aqs. phases. Apparatus of considerably smaller dimensions can be used for the separation of the organic and aqs. phases.</p> |
