摘要
1,235,944. Reserving seats &c. INTERNATIONAL COMPUTAPRINT CORP. 5 Feb., 1969 [20 Feb., 1968], No. 6138/69. Heading G4T. A remote station adapted for communicating with a central controller in an information storage and retrieval system, e.g. a system for booking theatre seats, includes means for formulating, visually displaying and communicating a signal, for receiving and visually displaying a reply signal from the controller, for storing the two signals in a memory and for printing a ticket to represent the reply signal stored in the memory. In operation, the central controller 180 (Fig. 1C) transmits a carrier signal to the communications interface and message structuring logic unit 86 of each station. Absence of this signal when the station is switched on operates an alarm 142. If the signal is received, a carrier signal is transmitted to the computer, signifying that the station is operating. The computer then transmits an addressed message modulated on the carrier signal to ask each station in turn whether seats are required. This message is received by unit 86 via line 138 and, if the address is correct, unit 86 conditions data set 134 for responding to the message. In those stations ready to transact, send control 92 will have been operated so that an affirmative response is now transmitted. Such stations are then asked in turn to transmit their transaction message by a signal which conditions data set 134 accordingly, the message then passing from a memory 52 through unit 86 to the computer. Setting the transaction message.-Either key 62 or key 64 is depressed according to whether ordinary or season tickets are required. Mode control 72 then sends appropriate mode characters to memory 52. Date, time, place &c. information is then selected on keyboards 10, 12, 14 and fed to memory 52, sequencer 30 controlling register 44 to ensure that each piece of information is stored alongside the correct mode character. The transaction message is displayed on CRT 82. The computer, on receiving the transaction message, scans its memory 181. If the seats required have not been issued, their booking is now entered in the memory and a signal confirming booking is sent to the station. The confirmation message is fed to memory 52 and displayed on CRT 83. Unit 86 conditions a ticket printer interface 152 to accept the message from memory 52. Upon depressing an " accept " key 24, interface 152 accepts the message and feeds signals to control a ticket printer 156 accordingly. The transaction message sent by a station may not be complete; the exact designation of the seats required, for example, may not be known. In this case, part of the transaction message is left blank and the reply from the computer indicates what seats are available.
