[Also in Division B3] A hollow roller 9 of a rolling mill for metals or other materials has its internal cavity 1 filled with a medium under pressure, the pressure being controllable while the roller is in use to adjust the profile 8 of the roller. A control pressure applied via a rotary joint 7 to a piston 5 in a cylinder 6 on the roller end acts to move a plunger 4 extending axially of the roller into the cavity 1 to control the cavity pressure. A second plunger may be provided at the other end of the roller. The control pressure may be adjusted manually, or automatically in response to means sensing the nip pressure on the rollers, to obtain uniform sheet thickness from the mill.
