1,175,607. Compacting nitrocellulose. NITROCHEMIE G.m.b.H. 29 June, 1967 [5 July, 1966], No. 30081/67. Heading C3A. Nitrocellulose moistened with an alcohol is rendered compact and pourable by kneading it mechanically in the presence of up to 5% of solvent and/or plasticizer based on the dry weight of the nitrocellulose. Specified solvents/ plasticizers are methyl ethyl and butyl acetates, acetone, dibutyl and dioctyl phthalates and triacetin. The alcohol may be, e.g. ethanol or butanol, present in an amount of 25-35%. Continuous kneaders or extruders, singly or in series may be used. The solvent and/or plasticizer may be added before or during kneading. High viscosity nitrocellulose is advantageously subjected to a cutting process before kneading. |
