1423663 Semi-permeable membrane ISRAEL STATE OF 29 Dec 1972 [3 Jan 1972] 59988/72 Heading B1X [Also in Divisions B4 and B5] An ion-selective membrane comprises a matrix of an electrically charged polymeric substance and embedded therein grains of an ion-exchange resin of opposite charge or of a polymeric substance characterised by a high degree of swelling. In examples the matrix is sulphochlorinated polyethylene, aminated and quaternised, containing particles of cationic (130 parts) and anionic (35 parts) resins; or a sulphochlorinated polyethylene subsequently hydrolysed to give a cationic matrix, containing particles of an anionic resin; or a sulphochlorinated polyethylene containing particles of a different sulphochlorinated polyethylene, the whole either aminated and quaternised, or hydrolysed: or a sulphochlorinated polyethylene containing particles of polyvinyl alcohol, the whole either aminated and quaternised, or hydrolysed. The membranes are used for desalination of water. |
