They are prepared by reacting a compound of formula with (i) R1 1 R1 2 N-CO-hal, or where hal is a halogen atom and R1 3 is an optionally substituted aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, aromatic or araliphatic hydrocarbon group or an alkoxy or aryloxy group or with (ii) phosgene or thiophosgene in the presence of an acidbinding agent and either an amine HNR1 1 R1 2 or an alcohol R1 3 OH where R1 3 is as defined above or an oxime HO-N-CR11 1 R11 2 , or (iii) with an isocyanate R 3 -N=C=O where in Formula I R 3 represents NR1 1 R1 2 . The compounds have herbicidal activity. Compounds of Formula II are prepared from aminophenols and chloroformic acid esters of oximes.
