Prepn. of oxalic acid diamide (I) by hydrolysis of cyanogen (CONH2)2 Hydrolysis is carried out using a mixture of carboxylic acid or acids and a carboxylic acid halide, or hydrogen halide in anhydrous conditions at temp. between 20 and 120 deg. C, pref. between 0 and 75 deg. C. Acetic acid is preferred. - Fertiliser, intermediate.
