The tube 1 is preferably of copper or aluminium and the tube 2 of steel. A polyethylene casing 4 may be provided. In use the space 3 between the tubes is pressurized with an inert gas, e.g. nitrogen, and the pressure of the gas is monitored to detect a leak in the inner or outer tube. A change in pressure of the gas activates means for cutting of the flow of fluid in the pipeline and/or producing an alarm. The space 3 is connected to the source of pressurizing gas by a bush (5) (Fig. 2, not shown), having a part 7 welded to an exposed portion of the tube 1 and a part soldered at (6) to the corrugated tube 2.
