The plastic polymer in low relief preferably is also a polyurethane elastomer and is deposited as a viscous pigmentcontaining solution thereof, by mezzo printing. It is preferred to deposit a higher relief visible pattern of plastic polymer over the discontinuous pattern or open pattern to produce a surface having higher relief polymer masses with the low relief pattern between the masses. This higher relief pattern is suitably deposited as a viscous pigment-containing solution thereof, by intaglio printing. After depositing the relief pattern the microporous sheet material may be heat-treated to cause a shrinkage of at least 5% in area. Fig. 1 (not shown ) is an enlarged photomicrograph looking down at the upper surface of a microporous sheet showing a relief pattern, the surface carrying spaced masses 32 of elastomeric polyurethane and an open pattern of thin irregular-shaped lines, or low ridges, 33 of thermoplastic polyurethane, in the spaces between masses 32. The sheet material is useful for making shoe uppers.</p> |
