The luminescence semiconductor device is intended for uniform illumination of the luminous surface. The device has at least one square rod-shaped semiconductor body, surrounded by photoconductive material in the form of a disc-shaped lens segment whose lens-shaped envelope is located opposite the semiconductor body on the side for the light output. Preferably the lens segment is of such shape that the boundary surfaces between the conductor and air provide only slight or none total reflection. The lens shape may be such that the light is emitted from the photoconductor in parallel direction. Over the photoconductor may be provided a dispersion disc increasing the observation angle.
